Preparing for a SAP Ariba interview

Interviewers for fresher and early-career roles test fundamentals and whether you have used the system. Understand each answer instead of memorising it, and be ready to describe how you would do the task in SAP. If you have not practised yet, say so honestly and explain what you have learned.

  1. What is the Ariba Network?
    A business network that connects buyers and suppliers so that purchase orders, invoices and other documents can be exchanged electronically.
  2. What is the difference between an RFI, an RFP and an auction?
    An RFI requests information from suppliers, an RFP requests detailed proposals with pricing, and an auction lets suppliers bid against each other for the business.
  3. What does Ariba Contracts do?
    It manages contract authoring, approval workflows, storage, renewals and compliance, and links contracts to sourcing and buying.
  4. What is the difference between guided buying and catalog buying?
    Guided buying gives requesters a simple, policy-driven experience for requesting goods and services. Catalog buying lets users select items from catalogs of approved products.
  5. What are punch-out and hosted catalogs?
    A punch-out catalog sends the user to the supplier's own site to shop and return the cart. A hosted catalog stores item and price data in Ariba.
  6. How does invoicing work with Ariba?
    Suppliers submit invoices on the Ariba Network, often by flipping a purchase order. Buyers match them against the purchase order and receipt, route exceptions for approval, and pass approved invoices to the ERP.
  7. What is supplier lifecycle and performance management?
    The processes for registering, qualifying, segmenting and evaluating suppliers throughout their relationship with the buyer.
  8. What is spend analysis?
    Analysing procurement spend data by category, supplier and department to find savings and compliance issues.
  9. How does Ariba integrate with SAP ERP?
    Through integration services on SAP BTP or the SAP Cloud Integration Gateway, which exchange master data, purchase orders, receipts and invoices with S/4HANA or ECC.
  10. What are approval flows?
    Configurable rules that route requisitions, contracts and invoices to the right approvers based on amount, category or other criteria.
