Preparing for a SAP BTP interview

Interviewers for fresher and early-career roles test fundamentals and whether you have used the system. Understand each answer instead of memorising it, and be ready to describe how you would do the task in SAP. If you have not practised yet, say so honestly and explain what you have learned.

  1. What is the structure of a BTP account?
    A global account contains subaccounts, which can be grouped in directories. Subaccounts are where services and applications are deployed and are tied to a region.
  2. What are entitlements and quotas?
    Entitlements define which services and how much capacity a global account can use. They are distributed to subaccounts as quotas.
  3. What are the runtimes on BTP?
    Cloud Foundry, Kyma (Kubernetes-based) and the ABAP environment, each suited to different types of applications.
  4. What is the Cloud Application Programming (CAP) model?
    A framework from SAP for building cloud services with CDS models and Node.js or Java. It reduces boilerplate and supports a clean separation of data and logic.
  5. What is SAP HANA Cloud?
    The cloud database service on BTP, used for application data, analytics and multi-model processing.
  6. What are destinations and the Cloud Connector?
    A destination stores the connection details for a remote system. The Cloud Connector creates a secure tunnel from BTP to systems inside the corporate network.
  7. How is authentication handled on BTP?
    Through XSUAA for application authorisation and the Identity Authentication Service (IAS) for identity and single sign-on.
  8. What is SAP Integration Suite?
    A set of integration services for building and managing integrations between SAP and non-SAP systems, including prebuilt integration content.
  9. What is side-by-side extensibility and the clean core?
    Side-by-side extensions run on BTP instead of changing S/4HANA code. This keeps the ERP core standard, which simplifies upgrades.
  10. How do you deploy an application to Cloud Foundry?
    Typically by building a multitarget application (MTA) archive from the mta.yaml descriptor and deploying it with the Cloud Foundry command line tools.
